Our Garden

Clearwater Community Gardens is more than just a place to grow vegetables—it’s a hub for connection, sustainability, and hands-on learning nestled in the heart of Clearwater, Florida. Founded in 2014, the garden was created with a vision to bring neighbors together through the shared joy of cultivating fresh, healthy food. What began as a grassroots initiative has since blossomed into a vibrant space where individuals of all backgrounds come to plant, learn, and grow—both literally and figuratively.

The garden offers 47 irrigated plots for members, each equipped with access to soil, compost, and mulch. These plots allow individuals and families to grow everything from tomatoes and herbs to kale and flowers, encouraging food security and self-reliance. Beyond the private plots, the space also includes shared gardens, a pollinator area filled with butterflies and bees, and communal herb beds available to all members.

Education is a core pillar of Clearwater Community Gardens. The organization hosts year-round workshops on topics like organic gardening, composting, native plants, and sustainable living practices. These events are open to members and often to the wider public, creating a ripple effect of knowledge throughout the community. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or a complete novice, there’s always something new to learn—and someone willing to lend a hand.

In addition to hands-on education, the garden plays host to a variety of social and seasonal events that bring the community together. The annual member potluck celebrates the harvest with homemade dishes featuring fresh ingredients grown just a few feet away. Holiday craft workshops, seed swaps, and volunteer days help build camaraderie and foster a sense of shared purpose among gardeners.

Sustainability is woven into every aspect of the garden. A rainwater harvesting system reduces reliance on municipal water, composting initiatives turn kitchen scraps into nutrient-rich soil, and the apiary on site supports pollinators while offering opportunities to learn about beekeeping. These environmentally responsible practices demonstrate how small actions at the local level can contribute to broader ecological health.

One of the garden’s most unique features is its strong emphasis on inclusivity. Plots are available for rent at accessible prices, and scholarships are offered to ensure cost is never a barrier to participation. The garden welcomes people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities, with wheelchair-accessible pathways and shaded gathering spaces that make it a comfortable place to linger and connect.

Whether you’re interested in growing your own food, learning about sustainable practices, or simply getting to know your neighbors, Clearwater Community Gardens offers a welcoming space to do it all. It’s a living example of what can happen when a community decides to invest in its soil—and in each other.
